We
invite you to visit the school to meet with our Admissions
Coordinator and Educational Director and spend time in our
classrooms, observing the teachers and students. When you
visit, you’ll receive our brochure containing an application.
The application should be completed and returned to us by
Friday, January 15, 2010.
Once
we have reviewed your application, we will ask you to
bring your child for a visit. On this occasion, your child,
along with four or five other children, will come into the classroom to work and play with the teachers for
approximately 30 minutes.
We
follow ISAAGNY (Independent Schools Admissions Association
of Greater New York) guidelines (www.isaagny.org/admissions.htm)
for new student admissions. Current students and siblings
of current students and alumnae have admissions priority. Please contact Shelly Wolf Scott, Admissions Coordinator, to get started.

Growing Connections is a unique horticultural program that uses hands-on experiments to stimulate children's innate curiosity regarding the natural world and helps set the basis for scientific investigation. Growing Connections began in 2002 as part of Rivendell School's commitment to homeless families with young children. The program was implemented at a transitional housing shelter in Manhattan using techniques inspired by horticultural therapy. Over 5 years Growing Connections served 2,000 mothers and children and led to the development of a natural science curriculum for young children. In spring 2007 the Growing Connections program, which incorporates a greenhouse, moved to Rivendell Preschool where it continues to evolve in harmony with our Montessori-based science curriculum. |
Summer
School
Our Summer School session runs from mid-June through the
end of July, from 8:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Rivendell
Preschool is closed in August.

Our
financial aid program seeks to enrich our school community
by increasing the socio-economic diversity of our preschool.
It is also part of our mission to retain kindergarten students;
thus, if family finances are preventing enrollment, aid
is offered. .

Parents
are an integral part of life at Rivendell Preschool. You
know your child best and we welcome your ideas so that we
work together to help the children. Through parent-teacher
conferences, phone calls, classroom visits, participation
in school family events, parent meetings and membership
in the Parent/ Teacher Association, parents
become active members of the Rivendell Preschool community.
Rivendell
Parent/Teacher Association
All parents whose children are enrolled in Rivendell Preschool
are PTA members. A $15.00 fee, assessed at the beginning
of the school year, covers the cost of refreshments and
childcare provided during PTA meetings, as well as other
miscellaneous expenses.
The PTA has parent chairpersons; in addition, each classroom
is represented by class liaisons.
Mission
The
Parent/Teacher Association strives to support the programs
of the school and foster communication between parents,
teachers and administrators.
Fundraising
and Events
The PTA sponsors the annual Fundraising Auction.
The auction raises most of the money that comprises our
Scholarship Fund and our Teachers’ Continuing Education
Fund.
Every fall the parents in each classroom have a “getting
to know you” party and organize
seasonal events and a picnic at the Prospect Park Carousel.
Meetings
The
PTA meets several times during the school year. The format of these meetings varies from year to year, but is driven by the interests and concerns of parents and teachers. Past topics include: discipline
and setting limits, sibling rivalry, in-depth looks at various
aspects of the Montessori curriculum.
