Who We Are
Young children take pleasure in learning to master the world around them. It's their first step on the road to independence. Our Montessori inclusion program provides a warm, cooperative environment where children ages two through six can confidently start on that journey.
Multi-age classrooms allow children to find their individual comfort levels, emotionally, socially and cognitively. Children see themselves as both successful learners and teachers as they grow. We nurture that growth and work with each child's particular strengths and needs through a flexible, Montessori curriculum.
Our inclusion program is a natural extension of this thinking. We believe that learning to accept and respect the differences among themselves in a familiar classroom setting provides a model for understanding and tolerance that has lasting benefits for every child.
A Partnership with Parents
Parents are an integral part of life at Rivendell Preschool. You know your child best and we welcome your ideas so that we work together to help the children. Through parent-teacher conferences, phone calls, classroom visits, participation in school family events, parent meetings and membership in the Parent/ Teacher Association, parents become active members of the Rivendell Preschool community.
PTA Mission
The Parent/Teacher Association strives to support the programs of the school and foster communication between parents, teachers and administrators.
All parents whose children are enrolled in Rivendell Preschool are PTA members. A $15.00 fee, assessed at the beginning of the school year, covers the cost of refreshments and childcare provided during PTA meetings, as well as other miscellaneous expenses.
Fundraising and Events
The PTA sponsors the annual Fundraising Auction. The auction raises most of the money that comprises our Scholarship Fund and our Teachers' Continuing Education Fund. Every fall the parents in each classroom have a "getting to know you" party and organize seasonal events and a picnic at the Prospect Park Carousel.
Meetings
The PTA meets several times during the school year. The format of these meetings varies from year to year, but is driven by the interests and concerns of parents and teachers. Past topics include: discipline and setting limits, sibling rivalry, in-depth looks at various aspects of the Montessori curriculum.
